Participants in our programs have opportunities to work closely with our regional partners to develop practical experience in project implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Partner organizations provide excellent supervision to ensure all interns can develop and accomplish their learning goals on a range of development projects through a combination of theory and practice. A few examples of projects you could find yourself working on as a participant in our program are listed below:
Legal Assistance
Though this program, we aim to promote the understanding of legal assistant practice and procedures for law practitioners in developing countries. Interns will be equipped with knowledge of international law practices, case counseling and legal assistance systems.
HIV Prevention
Thai NGOs are well known worldwide for campaigning on HIV prevention and sexual transmitted-diseases among men who have sex with men and sex workers. Our partner organizations have received international awards for their HIV prevention programs. Interns tend to enjoy diverse work environments and creative ideas where everyone supports each other. Their campaign reaches target groups and project objectives. Interns participate in project implementation as well as having the opportunity to enjoy wonderful events like parades, conferences and seminars held by host organizations all year round.
Education
Emphasizing child-centered approach methodology, Alternative Education is rapidly increasing its popularity. Children Village School aims to promote alternative education management and raise the understanding of child-centered teaching. Interns will learn the theories, principles and concepts of alternative education, which lead to real practice in class. Being an intern at Children Village School will gain practical experience while teaching in the class. Moreover, intern will fully participate in activities and music therapy for children with behavioral problem.
Disability Issues
Working with a government agency can be very rewarding. One of our partners in particular - Rajanagarindra Institute for Child Development (RICD) - offers active support on providing courses to equip interns with physical and occupational therapy experience. Interns with RICD will get experience working alongside professional psychologists and physiotherapists at the hospital. Internship placement will cover working in the occupational therapy department and the clinic, and observing counseling cases and class lectures.
Food Security
The concept of food security is gaining in support every day in our modern world where poverty spreads and creates a chain of food-insecurity. Many countries favor the concept of self-sustainable agriculture, which covers farming, pesticide control and natural resource management to ensure the food security of the next generation.
Street Kids
Homeless children have become a common problem in developing countries. Poverty grips two third of the world’s population. Families have to worry more about surviving than the care of their children. Moreover, alcohol consumption and domestic violence make the problem worse for children. Many NGOs work on the children’s physical well-being and others try to help with their mental, emotional and social needs with many forms of art and activity therapies. In order to achieve a successful internship placement in art and activity therapies, participants should have some knowledge of child psychology.
Service Learning
Internship Asia, In partnership with Institutional Network for Social Action and its Miriam College, has created the significant internship in-service learning program which aims to raise the social awareness and deepen social involvement of teacher and student. This program equips university staff with the knowledge of inspiring volunteerism and social service in academic institutions and in service learning program management.
