By definition, an internship is a short-term work experience in a professional environment where the emphasis is on learning. It is a chance for you to get practical experience in your field of interest while working under the guidance of a mentor and an internship coordinator. The mentor and internship coordinator develop a balance work and education for you in order to create a real-world classroom.

Internships come in many different forms. Some offer part-time work, while others are full-time. Some offer school credit, others don’t. And some are paid, while others are not.  Compensation is certainly something to consider when making the decision to participate in an internship; however, the greatest rewards are measured in what you learn - not what you earn.

IA’s Regional Internship Program is designed to offer full-time, non-credit exchanges for the staff of community development organizations.  Selected participants will work with other development organizations around the region for a period of 3-6 months before returning to their home organization to utilize their new skills and knowledge.
